Word Invoice Template

Fill in the invoice below, then choose Word under “Or download as” to get a .docx file you can edit in Microsoft Word. The PDF is there too, for sending.

Download your invoice as a Word file

  1. Fill in the invoice: your details, the client's, the lines, tax and terms.
  2. Under the Download PDF button, choose Word.
  3. Open the .docx in Word. The details are text and the lines are in a table, so you can edit anything.
  4. To reuse it, save a copy as a Word template (the .dotx type), and change the number and date each time.

Word file or PDF?

Send the PDF: the layout does not shift on the client's computer and accidental changes to the amounts are unlikely. Use the Word file when you want to adjust wording or layout by hand. Totals in the Word file are the figures from the tool; if you change a line in Word, change the total too. A table formula can do the sums (Layout, Formula, =SUM(ABOVE)).

The Word file has a simple layout. If you want a look like the PDF's, use the PDF.

Build your own template in Word

Prefer to start from nothing? Menu names differ between versions of Word, but the idea is the same: File, New, search for invoice, put your details at the top, and insert a table with Description, Quantity, Rate and Amount.

Questions

Can I download a Word file from this page?
Yes. Fill in the invoice and choose Word under the Download PDF button. You get a .docx file. The free file ends with the same small credit line as the free PDF; Pro removes it.
Does Word keep my formatting?
The Word file is plain and tidy rather than a copy of the PDF's look. For the exact look, send the PDF.
