Commercial Invoice Template
A commercial invoice describes goods being sold across a border. Fill it in below and download the PDF. Customs rules vary by country, so check what your carrier or customs broker needs.
What a commercial invoice often shows
- Seller and buyer, with full addresses, and the importer's tax number where asked
- Date and invoice number, and a purchase order number if there is one
- A description of each item, quantity and unit price
- Currency and total value
- The tariff (HS) code, and the country where the goods were made
- The shipping terms (Incoterm), the reason for export and a signed declaration
Commercial or proforma?
A commercial invoice records a sale that has happened. A proforma invoice is an estimate sent before it. For most shipments that are sales, customs want the commercial one, and carriers may ask for a proforma when there is no sale, such as samples.
Questions
- Does this tool add customs codes?
- It has free fields you can use for a tariff code or an origin note, but it does not look anything up. Check the codes with your carrier or customs broker.
- How many copies do I need?
- That depends on the carrier and the countries involved. Ask them before you ship.
