Sales Invoice Template
A sales invoice bills a customer for what you sold. The name is mostly used for goods, but in accounting it means any invoice you issue to a customer, services included. Fill it in below and download the PDF.
What a sales invoice adds
- A line for each product, with quantity and unit price
- Any discount, shown on its own line
- Delivery or shipping, if you charge it
- Tax, shown as a line of its own
- The order or purchase order number, if the buyer gave one
Sales invoice or receipt?
Send a sales invoice when payment comes later. If the customer pays on the spot, give a receipt; see invoice vs receipt.
Questions
- What is the difference between a sales invoice and a regular invoice?
- Mostly the name. A sales invoice is the invoice you issue to a customer, as opposed to a purchase invoice you receive. For goods it lists products and quantities.
- Do I charge tax on a sales invoice?
- That depends on where you are and what you sell. Show it on its own line, and check with your tax office or an accountant.
