Construction Estimate Template
A construction estimate gives the client an expected cost before the scope is final. Fill it in below and download the PDF.
What a construction estimate includes
- The site and a description of the work
- Labor, materials and subcontractors, with expected costs
- Allowances for items not yet chosen, such as fittings
- What could change the cost, such as ground conditions
- How long the estimate holds, and the next step
From estimate to quote
Once the scope is fixed, many contractors turn the estimate into a construction quote the client can accept. A site visit usually comes between the two.
Questions
- How accurate should an estimate be?
- As accurate as the information allows. Say what you assumed, so the client knows what would change it.
- Should I list allowances?
- Yes. An allowance is an amount for something not chosen yet, and it shows the client where the price can move.
