Free invoice template for plumbers
Customers read a plumbing invoice looking for two things: what was done, and why it cost that much. Separating labour, parts and call-out makes the bill easier to accept and easier to defend.
Example line items for plumbing
These are examples of how to word lines, not prices. Use your own rates.
Call-out fee
Show it once, separately from labour.
Labour, per hour
State the hours worked and the hourly rate.
Parts and materials
Itemise the main parts so the customer can see what was fitted.
Emergency or out-of-hours surcharge
Show it as its own line if it applies.
Waste disposal
List it if you charge for removing old fixtures.
What to put on a plumbing invoice
- The address where the work was done
- A short description of the job
- Hours worked and the hourly rate
- Your licence or registration number where your area requires it on paperwork
- Warranty on the work, if you give one
For the basics every invoice needs, see what to put on an invoice.
Payment terms
Many trades ask for payment on completion or Net 7 for private customers and longer for commercial accounts. Put the terms you actually enforce on the invoice.
Type Net 30 (or Net 7, Net 15) in the Payment terms box and the due date fills in. Payment terms explained.
Questions
- Do I charge tax on labour and parts?
- That depends on where you work and who you sell to. Check with your local tax office or an accountant. The tool lets you add a tax percentage and applies it after any discount.
- Should parts have a markup shown?
- Most invoices show the price charged, not your cost. Show the price per part and the quantity; you do not need to show the markup.
