Sales tax calculator
Enter a price and the tax rate that applies to you. The calculator does the arithmetic; it does not know any rates.
Answer
Enter the price to see the answer.
How it works
Adding tax: tax = price x rate / 100, and the total is the price plus the tax.
When the price already includes tax: the price without tax = price / (1 + rate / 100), and the tax is the difference.

Questions
- What tax rate should I use?
- The one that applies to your sale. It depends on where you and your customer are and on what you sell, so ask your local tax office or an accountant.
- Why does the answer differ by a cent from my accounting software?
- Software may round each line separately or round only the total. This calculator rounds the tax once, to the nearest cent.
