Hourly rate to project price calculator
Enter the hours you expect, your hourly rate, any expenses and a buffer for the unexpected to get a price you can quote.

How it works
Your time = hours x hourly rate. Subtotal = your time + expenses. The buffer is a percentage of the subtotal, and the project price is the subtotal plus the buffer.
A fixed price protects the client from a long bill and protects you only if the buffer covers the surprises, so be honest about the hours.

Questions
- Should I quote a fixed price or bill by the hour?
- A fixed price suits work you can describe clearly. Hourly billing suits work whose size is unknown. An estimate, which can change, sits between the two.
- How big should the buffer be?
- As big as the uncertainty in the work. Clear, repeated work needs little. New or unclear work needs more.
